Mutt Strut/Big Dog Art Show | Boston Pet Photography

Saturday morning I had the pleasure of photographing the Mutt Strut and Big Dog Art Show for the Lowell Humane Society. We didn’t have very good weather, but we didn’t let that get us down! We had some super sweet pups come out for the Mutt Strut Parade and participate in some fun contests.

This girl was super smiley and loved the camera. No wonder, the camera loved her! If I had a raincoat like that, I think I’d like the rain a lot more.

As you can see, we had some gorgeous faces there! Per usual, I wanted to take all of them home. The lovely husky on the left wasn’t crazy about the camera. It wasn’t that she was afraid of it; it was more like a certain….disdain. I only got a couple of shots where she was looking at me. Every other shot she would (I swear) deliberately turn her head away from me before I pushed the shutter. Her mom confirmed that’s how she acts at home. But I caught her! Look at those eyes!

Pocket- and super-sized.

Not everyone was crazy about the rain. Case in point: Frankie the daschund. I think the poor little guy would’ve preferred to be asleep on the couch at home. He was much happier a few minutes later when Dad picked him up and swaddled him like a little puppy burrito.

That giant sculpture in the middle picture is part of a really cool installation in Kerouac Park by artist Dale Rogers. It’s a very interesting exhibition and I definitely recommend you stop by!

It was a slightly soggy event, but great nevertheless!

September 16, 2009 - 5:42 am Jeff - Alexis, I *love* that shot with the white terrier straining at the leash! The lean of the dog and that camera angle--perfect!

September 16, 2009 - 4:48 pm Holly Bowers - That girl in the raincoat? No wonder she won Best Smile! :D

September 20, 2009 - 7:05 am Deanna Wheeler - I loved your pictures. I have a 2 year old yellow lab, Jenny, who is my soulmate. She sleeps with my husband and me, sits on our laps, goes snowshoeing and hiking, and watches the dogs on Animal Planet, (she especially likes to watch them jump into the water.) You should check out Steve Hunicks web site on Dog Mountain. It is about a mile from me in St. Johnsbury. He is famous for his art work and sculptures as well as Dog Chapel. You would love it. By the way I was your grandmother's classmate in graded school and high school. Norm graduated in my class in college. We just had our 50th reunion yesterday.
