Like most labs, Shadow and Inky are an absolute joy to be around, and I had a great time at their session! I think that they did too

To the Hornsby family, my deepest sympathy for your loss. It’s clear how much your wonderful girl meant to all of you.

As luck would have it, the skies cleared up enough for us to get some great shots outside. Normally a city dog, Stella LOVES their house on the cape – it’s her favorite place in the whole world. It just wouldn’t have been a complete session if we didn’t get any pictures of her and her true love, her tennis ball.

Here are just a few of my favorites that grabbed my eye when I was editing yesterday. Stella totally rocked this shoot!

I love dogs in coats, don’t you? At first Stella was sad that it was raining and we couldn’t go outside.

But there were so many great images to be had indoors! I love this one of her and her mom.

This dog also looks gorgeous in black and white. Work it, Stella!

This last one captures her energy perfectly. Joyful, excited, so happy and full of life! To me, this shot just says “WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!” And that’s Stella

If you haven’t already seen this video, you really need to take a few minutes out of your day to watch it. Just to warn you – you might want to block off at least half an hour of your day, because you’re going to want to watch it again…and again…and again. I’m sure I’ve seen it a dozen times and it hasn’t gotten old yet! My favorite part is at 0:57…that dog’s expression makes me giggle every single time.

After I saw it for the first time I was thinking about how cool it would be to capture footage of Tigger in slow motion. Then I remembered…that cat moves like lightning when you pop open a tin of wet food, but other than that, his whole life is in slow-mo. I think time lapse photography would be better suited to his lifestyle.

There were sooooo many cute pups there. Some of them ran the race, and some of them were there to support their humans.

The runners anxiously awaited the starting gun, and after a wonderful rendition of the national anthem by Daniel Clark (who, incidentally, also sings at the start of the Boston Marathon!)….

….they were off!

A good time was most definitely had by all.

Especially these two, who would like to remind you that sharing is caring. Even if the person doing the sharing is doing it unintentionally.

This is Otis, the tiniest Boston Terrier puppy I’ve ever seen. And he would like you to know that it would be fine and dandy by him if you snuggled up next to him by the fireplace.

After a few rounds of this horrible game, the shelter alerted our family, and we quickly adopted him before his previous owner could come back. He settled into his new life with us very quickly and bonded very deeply with our yellow lab, Sam. Those two boneheads (I say that with the utmost affection) loved each other so much and were the absolute best dogs anyone could ask for.

Almost two years ago, we lost Sammy to old age. Jake was heartbroken. The vet cautioned us that he might not last long without his brother, but he was a trooper. After a few months, he was his usual bouncy, smiley self, and continued to be so for quite some time.

Until Saturday morning.

He suffered a seizure and a stroke early that day. After I got the call from my Dad, we dropped everything and drove up to New Hampshire to be with him. Seeing my baby Jake struggle to get up to greet me, refuse to drink any water, and list so heavily to one side when he did manage to stand was one of the hardest things I’d ever had to watch. Gone was my happy-go-lucky, dopey boy. He was hurting, and he was confused. I laid down on the floor next to him, and I cried.

He went peacefully yesterday morning at the vet’s, surrounded by the people that loved him the most.

I miss him, the destroyer of tennis balls, thunderdog, worst hunting dog in the world. Jacob Apollo Hall.

Be at peace, baby Jake. I hope you and Sam have found each other and that never-ending pile of tennis balls and dog treats at the end of the rainbow bridge.

Duuuuuuuude.

This girl was super smiley and loved the camera. No wonder, the camera loved her! If I had a raincoat like that, I think I’d like the rain a lot more.

As you can see, we had some gorgeous faces there! Per usual, I wanted to take all of them home. The lovely husky on the left wasn’t crazy about the camera. It wasn’t that she was afraid of it; it was more like a certain….disdain. I only got a couple of shots where she was looking at me. Every other shot she would (I swear) deliberately turn her head away from me before I pushed the shutter. Her mom confirmed that’s how she acts at home. But I caught her! Look at those eyes!

Pocket- and super-sized.

Not everyone was crazy about the rain. Case in point: Frankie the daschund. I think the poor little guy would’ve preferred to be asleep on the couch at home. He was much happier a few minutes later when Dad picked him up and swaddled him like a little puppy burrito.

That giant sculpture in the middle picture is part of a really cool installation in Kerouac Park by artist Dale Rogers. It’s a very interesting exhibition and I definitely recommend you stop by!

It was a slightly soggy event, but great nevertheless!
